Erik ten Hag sent warning over his future at Man Utd, but Ineos can avoid 2016 Woodward mistake

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been warned that FA Cup triumph might not be enough to save him this summer, but it probably should.

Sunday arguably saw the most memorable game of Erik ten Hag‘s reign so far as Manchester United came back from behind twice, to beat Liverpool 4-3 at Old Trafford.

This moved the club into the FA Cup semi finals with a game against Championship side Coventry the only thing preventing Ten Hag from a second successive final.

Winning the cup would be massive for United and could be a sign of things to come under the Ineos ownership, but now Ten Hag has actually been warned that his future might not be saved by silverware.

Valentijn Driessen warns Erik ten Hag that he could face Louis van Gael’s fate

Ten Hag may have experienced euphoric highs after the dramatic 4-3 win over Liverpool on Sunday, but he’s now been warned this might not have saved his job.

Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen has explained that he thinks Ten Hag’s fate is already sealed this summer.

“Even if Erik ten Hag wins the FA Cup, I don’t think this will save his job. Louis van Gaal also went out after winning the FA Cup,” he told SoccerNews.

This obviously is a possibility with the club likely to have already made the decision, but we’d hope Ineos won’t make this mistake.

Ineos shouldn’t make Ed Woodward mistake at Manchester United

Ed Woodward making the decision to sack Van Gaal after the Dutchman lifted the FA Cup is remembered as one which was handled very poorly.

Ultimately it was a classless decision which has since been criticised. With Jose Mourinho succeeding him, things ended up exactly where they were and Van Gaal arguably should’ve been afforded the chance for one more campaign given his silverware win.

For Ten Hag, the hope is that Ineos would see an FA Cup triumph as a sign of things getting better, especially if he also leads the club into the Champions League again.

After how incredible Sunday was, with Sir Dave Brailsford watching on, the decision to keep Ten Hag could’ve just been made easier.

With so much uncertainty over a new manager, keeping Ten Hag for one more season to prove he is the right man while having a proper structure is the right call.
