'Will play a huge part': Alan Shearer hails 'fantastic' Nottingham Forest star

Alan Shearer has delivered praise on Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White after his efforts at the weekend. The 24-year-old starred as the Reds drew 1-1 with Luton in a big relegation battle.

Forest need Gibbs-White to star more than ever now. The Reds were hit with a four-point deduction yesterday – and although the club plans to appeal – Forest are now 18th in the Premier League.

Forest’s number 10 helped himself to another assist at the weekend. He set up Chris Wood to score and reach double figures for the campaign – with Shearer a fan of Gibbs-White’s performance.

What Alan Shearer said about Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White

Well, there weren’t too many games for Shearer to choose from this weekend when it came to his Team of the Week. However, he was still asked to do one, with Forest star Gibbs-White getting the nod.

The forward was the only Forest player put up for selection. Gibbs-White was a good pick by Shearer and he feels that the player will be vitally important in the team’s survival mission.

He told the Premier League: “He will play a huge part if Forest are to stay up this season. He laid the ball on a plate for Chris Wood with a fantastic cross.”

Gibbs-White now had nine goal contributions this season for Forest. He’s scored four goals and has five assists to his name and the hope will be that more will be on the horizon.

Gibbs-White is the leader that the City Ground now craves

With the points deduction now sorted, Forest need leaders and in Gibbs-White they have one. The talented player has captained the Reds this season and there is an argument that he should get the armband.

One criticism thrown at the Reds this season is that the players have no fight. That is a suggestion that is so harsh on Gibbs-White given that he always gives his all for the Forest cause.

It’s nice that Shearer has recognised that Gibbs-White was brilliant on Saturday and he’s also spot on that Forest need him to keep firing this season.
