‘Crazy’: Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool will do all they can to hire ‘fantastic’ manager now

Liverpool need a new manager.

Jurgen Klopp has announced he’s leaving the Reds at the end of the season, and the Merseyside club have the unenviable task of finding a replacement for one of the greatest managers ever.

There have been a number of managers linked with the post, but the frontrunner for the position appears to be Xabi Alonso.

Speaking on JD Football’s YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Alonso’s recent links with Liverpool, and he says that the Spaniard is indeed someone the Reds want to hire, claiming that they will fight with Bayern Munich right until the end to hire the ‘fantastic’ manager.

Liverpool really want Xabi Alonso

Romano spoke about the gaffer.

“I’m sure that Liverpool will fight until the end to get Xabi Alonso. I see Liverpool and Bayern really fighting for the Spanish manager, that will be an interesting one in the coming weeks and months,” Romano said.

“I think he’s going to be one of the best managers in the world. I’m 100% sure of that. Liverpool and Bayern will really try their best. Bayern are already pushing for that, it will be a crazy battle in April,” Romano said

Might not be easy

As much as Liverpool want Alonso, getting him through the door may not be the easiest of tasks.

Indeed, as Romano says, Bayern Munich are also very much a factor in this race, and given that Xabi Alonso is already settled in Germany and knows the Bundesliga very well, that move may appeal to him.

On top of that, there’s also the off chance that Alonso may choose to stay at Bayer Leverkusen. After all, he has a good thing going at the moment, and he may not want to jump ship before he’s finished the job that he’s started.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months.
