'Shocking failure': Pundit left stunned by how bad 24-year-old has been for Manchester United

Having watched him against Liverpool, one pundit has now been tearing into a Manchester United player he believes has been a complete failure.

Fortunately, Erik ten Hag’s side do head into the international break in good mood, buoyed by their date at Wembley next month.

Although they shouldn’t be taken lightly by any means, United surely must believe that they can beat Coventry City, and they should be aiming to navigate the tie comfortably too.

It remains to be seen what Man United side will turn up on that day, but fans will be optimistic.

Alejandro Garnacho is now providing a lot of reason to believe things will continue to improve, a young player now shouldering a lot of responsibility.

And although he didn’t look fully fit upon his return, Rasmus Hojlund also falls into that bracket, a profile with so much promise.

Of course, on the other end of the spectrum, there are those that are still struggling in a United shirt.

And despite scoring against Liverpool, it seems fair to say that Antony’s time at Old Trafford has been a ‘failure’ thus far, something Eamon Dunphy had no doubt about.

Eamon Dunphy says Antony has been a complete failure at Manchester United

Speaking on ‘The Stand’ podcast, former United youth player and Ireland international Eamon Dunphy was less than complimentary about Antony.

The pundit believed the Brazilian had been a complete failure at the club and labelled the move ‘shocking’.

Speaking about Liverpool allowing United back into the game last weekend, Dunphy said: “They certainly wouldn’t think that Antony, who had come on as a sub would score it because he’s been a grave disappointment, to put it mildly.

“He didn’t start the match, he hasn’t started recently, he cost £85m from ten Hag’s previous club, Ajax, and he’s been really surprising and shocking failure.”

Of course, given Antony does have a contract with United until 2027, there’s certainly time to turn things around, and fans will hope that will be the case.

But it’s certainly hard to argue with Dunphy on this one.

At United, Antony has played 74 games scoring 10 goals and providing four assists, quite a drop off from 82 games played at Ajax with 24 goals and 22 assists.

The Brazilian is clearly finding the Premier League more difficult, and in truth Old Trafford hasn’t been the easiest place to achieve success of late either.

And whilst it may still be a little harsh to brand Antony’s time at Manchester United a complete failure, things will need to change drastically.

That being said, Jurgen Klopp did seem really impressed with one United player in the game mentioned.
