Spanish police raided offices of the nation's football federation RFEF and other properties, and carried out seven arrests, the Guardia Civil confirmed to dpa on Wednesday.

The probe is reportedly in connection with suspected corruption and money laundering, and the searches were ordered by an investigating judge in Majadahonda who has been probing suspicious contracts during Luis Rubiales' term as RFEF president.

It is said to include the deal to hold the Spanish Super Cup as a four-team tournament in Saudi Arabia, completed by Rubiales together with former Barcelona player Gerard Pique.

In all, 11 searches were carried out in several Spanish regions, including in Granda where Rubiales resides. He was reportedly not in the country at the time.

Rubiales stepped down last year over the women's World Cup kissing affair, having kissed Spanish player Jenni Hermoso on the lips without her consent.

Rubiales has protested his innocence but is also under criminal investigation over the incident in Spain, and was banned for three years from football activities by the world governing body FIFA.
