The Apprentice star on biggest secret behind 'you're fired' scenes and 'losing your mind'

The Apprentice star James Hill, who went on to win Celebrity Big Brother, has spilled the real tea on filming 15-hour days, why they all wear scarves when they get fired, and not having a CBB game plan.

After The Apprentice contestants get fired, there’s a common denominator, and that’s each BBC star leaving while wearing a scarf – in the literal height of summer?! We’ve got all the tea from James Hill.

The Apprentice star spills on those scarves

You may have noticed how each The Apprentice star wears a scarf after they are fired. Coats and scarves are used to cover up clothing as they’ll be wearing a different outfit on the day they leave.

Former star on the BBC show, James Hill, said they film everyone getting fired before the show is filmed. Having gone onto win Celebrity Big Brother, he explained how the two shows’ filming processes differ.

He told Reality Titbit via BetVictor Casino: “Before the show, they film us getting fired, and getting into a taxi, in case you bugger off when fired. It’s not so much acting but putting things in different orders.”

Each task takes several days to film

We see an hour of The Apprentice on our screens a week, but it actually takes three days to film each task. The tasks take 15 hours, and the actual boardroom set-up takes a whole day to get filmed.

James recalled how they get five hours of sleep before getting woken up in the morning to “crack on,” which he said was “mentally challenging,” to the point where you start to “lose your mind”.

When it comes to those boardroom meetings, it’s actually a massive table despite making it look small. For James, though, going out of their comfort zones for each task was the hardest part.

Fans saw the star, who introduced himself as someone who “knew he’d be a millionaire,” argue with Bianca when he was task manager. Despite this, Lord Sugar knew James would “go somewhere” even when fired.

CBB and Apprentice ‘shaped his life’

Although the current series of Celebrity Big Brother was “nowhere near as explosive as his,” James says both shows “shaped his life and him,” as he “wouldn’t have the life he has now” otherwise.

When asked about why he believes he won CBB back in 2015 – which he had to delay for a year due to a no-show contract with The Apprentice – James said he “tried to stand up for right and wrong”.

He told us: “I don’t think you can have a game plan – not for the full time, because it’s not sustainable. You have to be yourself. I was myself, and the outcome was that I won. It was a proud moment.”
