£22m Spurs player scored for his country yesterday, now on four goals from his last six international outings

Numerous Tottenham Hotspur players are currently away on international duty, mostly for friendlies but with some in qualifying or playoff action.

For instance, Spurs trio Ben Davies, Brennan Johnson and Joe Rodon helped get Wales over the line and into the finals of Euro 2024 on Thursday night.

Likewise, Tottenham captain Son Heung-min is on international duty for South Korea, who are in World Cup qualifying action over the March international break.

The £22million man helped spare his nation’s blushes, helping them draw 1-1 with Thailand at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in the second round of Asia’s preliminaries for the 2026 tournament.

Son opened the scoring for the Taeguk Warriors in the 42nd minute of the match, side-footing into the net from eight yards out following Lee jae-sung’s delivery.

However, Thailand equalised just after the hour as Supanhat Mueanta fired in from close range. That was it in terms of goals, as both sides shared the points.

The result denied interim coach Hwang Sun-hong victory in his first game in charge following Jurgen Klinsmann’s sacking after their disappointing Asian Cup campaign.

However, the South Koreans still lead Group C by three points from Thailand at the halfway point after China were held to a 2-2 draw by Singapore.

The top two finishers in each of the nine groups advance to the next phase of qualifying, the decisive one in terms of Asia’s eight guaranteed qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Once again, Son delivers for South Korea as he always does for Tottenham. The 31-year-old now has 45 goals and 20 assists from 124 appearances for his nation.

Son also has four goals and one assist from his last six outings for South Korea, which includes three in the Asian Cup.

South Korea are next in action on Tuesday, against the same opposition at Bangkok’s Rajamangala National Stadium.
