A multibillion-euro growth package to boost businesses in Germany, promising tax relief and less bureaucracy, is approved by lawmakers in the upper house of parliament.

On Wednesday evening a mediation committee of Germany's upper and lower house - the Bundesrat and Bundestag - reached a majority in favour of the growth package.

The parliamentary state secretary for finance, Katja Hessel, on Friday said the compromise was "the urgent signal that the economy needs now."

Germany, the largest economy in the European Union, is projected to grow by a meagre 0.2% this year, according to a recent forecast from Economy Minister Robert Habeck.
