Overwatch 2 PvE is canceled completely

Overwatch 2 players have been wondering about the future of PvE ever since developers didn’t deliver what was promised. Now it seems it’s canceled for good after all.

Overwatch 2 came under fire last year when it announced that the PvE mode promised at BlizzCon, which was essentially going to be a single-player campaign, was no longer viable. Blizzard explained that it was instead going to provide players with three story missions in Season 6.

Unfortunately, the PvE missions were met with a lot of criticism from the Overwatch 2 playerbase. Most felt that they had no replay value and didn’t add too much to the lore of the game as promised. The result was devastating.

Overwatch 2 devs canceling PvE completely

With the missions considered completely underwhelming, Blizzard has decided to axe all future PvE content and lay off developers working on story missions. On top of that, Blizzard had charged for PvE missions but the sales were abysmal.

“We struggled to find our footing with the Hero Mission experience early on. Scope grew. We were trying to do too many things at once and we lost focus,” game director Aaron Keller revealed earlier.

Instead, the Overwatch 2 developers are focusing on PvP due to community feedback. But spokesperson Andrew Reynolds has said that they are “exploring new experiences” beyond online play. It’s not clear what this means just yet, however.
