Ex-coach Dutt: Schuster and Freiburg a 100% fit

Julian Schuster is the right man to coach Freiburg from summer onwards because of the special environment at the Bundesliga club, according to their former helmsman Robin Dutt.

Ex-Freiburg captain Schuster was on Friday confirmed to succeed Christian Streich who is stepping down after more than 12 years in charge at the end of the season.

Dutt, who was in charge 2007-2011 after a 16-year reign of Volker Finke, told Kicker sports magazine on Sunday that "Julian is a huge coaching talent and I am 100% convinced it will work out in combination with the supporting club environment."

Schuster played under Dutt who named him "a team leader" and "a very good strategist ... with who you could talk as coach about tactical plans and approaches."

Dutt said this will work because of the special Freiburg environment where "in the worst case even relegation can happen as under Christian Streich who then led the team back up immediately."

Schuster is currently part of Freiburg's academy coaching staff, has not coached a first team before, and has huge shoes to fill.

Dutt said this would be a problem "at 16 or 17 other Bundesliga clubs" but possible in Freiburg "as long as the candidate is an extraordinary talent," because there is "big internal support" at the club "and more team work than elsewhere."
