James McClean and Humphrey Ker share jokes after Andy Cannon’s Wrexham display

Wrexham fans have become used to seeing Paul Mullin finding the back of the net, but there was another goal hero against Grimsby Town on Saturday.

Yes, Mullin did what Mullin does and scored a superb volley in a 3-1 Wrexham victory at Blundell Park this weekend.

Mullin’s strike came with Wrexham already 2-0 up though and that’s because midfielder Andy Cannon took charge in the first half.

Cannon drove home a powerful strike from long range to open the scoring before finishing off a stunning counter-attack.

Mullin was at the heart of that goal but Cannon’s finish was a thing of beauty, firing high into the net to put Wrexham 3-0 up.

Cannon has been a driving force in recent weeks and was simply outstanding in the 3-1 win at Morecambe earlier in March.

Sure, he could have defended Tranmere Rovers’ winner a little better last week, but Cannon is proving himself to be a vital player in Wrexham’s push for promotion.

Andy Cannon celebrates on Instagram

Cannon has taken to social media to celebrate Saturday’s win – and his brace.

Cannon posted photos from the game alongside two football emojis, celebrating his two-goal display.

George Evans showed his support for Cannon but James McClean had a rather different approach after seeing Cannon’s message.

McClean joked that Cannon’s brace will land him a goal bonus – and asked if he still wants come round to help with McClean’s windows and bins this week!

McClean did add ‘well done kid’ as he offered praise to Cannon, though director Humphrey Ker joined in with the jokes.

Ker suggested that Cannon scoring twice actually means that he has to do McClean’s bins and windows twice rather than just the once.

Wrexham fans will be used to seeing this kind of banter from McClean and probably even Ker too, adding some humour after a big three points.

Cannon’s attention will now turn to a huge clash with week as Wrexham host promotion rivals Mansfield Town on Friday.

A win would give Wrexham real hope of winning the League Two title this season and Cannon is bound to be a key man against the Stags – especially after another goalscoring display.
