Jeff Stelling has admitted he’s a massive fan of one Tottenham Hotspur player at the moment.
It’s been a fairly productive week for Tottenham players during the international break.
Both Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso were on target for Argentina over the weekend while Heung-min Son netted for South Korea on Thursday. Brennan Johnson also bagged a well-taken goal as Wales thrashed Finland 4-1 last week.
But one Spurs star who may be frustrated after the latest round of international fixtures is James Maddison.
The 27-year-old watched on from the bench as an uninspired England fell to a 1-0 defeat at Wembley on Saturday.
And off the back of a dull 90 minutes against Brazil, Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling have made the case for Maddison to start for England.
Stelling is a huge fan of Maddison
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist claimed that he would have Maddison in his starting XI for England, which prompted Stelling to praise the Spurs star.
“He’s in my starting 11, just for the record,” McCoist said.
Stelling added: “You can’t get a bigger James Maddison fan than me!”
Maddison an unused sub during England vs Brazil game
Even though England lacked cutting edge in the final third on Saturday, Maddison watched on from the bench and was an unused substitute.
Gareth Southgate even turned to Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo in the final 15 minutes of the game over Maddison.
The fact that the Spurs star has only managed five appearances for the Three Lions is quite remarkable.
Many would love to see Southgate use Maddison in his natural position in midfield but he is often forced out wide for England.
Whether or not the £40 million man will get an opportunity to impress against Belgium tomorrow remains to be seen.
With the Euros just around the corner, many fans are eager to see how Maddison performs alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in midfield.
