Mending The Line movie streaming on Netflix

Currently ranked sixth in the Netflix ‘Top 10’ movies chart, Mending The Line is a 2022 American drama movie that stars Sinqua Walls (Friday Night Lights) as John Colter, a marine wounded while serving in Afghanistan.

Upon his return to the US, he grapples with growing PTSD and the unforgettable images of his friends whose lives were lost in the war.

Struggling to come to terms with the fact he remains while others have fallen, he finds an unlikely kinship in an elderly Vietnam war veteran named Ike Fletcher (played by Brian Cox).

Navigating the difficulties of his new life, his new fly-fishing friend becomes somebody to confide in and connect with.

It’s a touching and deeply heartfelt film, elevated by incredible central performances and poignant metaphors. Netflix audiences are loving it, and the critics did too, helping it land an 80% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

I thought it was lovely, and after a giant Succession-sized hole in my viewing, it’s wonderful to see Brian commanding the screen in a different but nevertheless mesmerizing role. Just don’t forget to have some tissues handy, it’s a tearjerker.

Working with Brian Cox on Mending The Line

Collaborating with the legendary actor Brian would be a dream for any actor, and is an experience that Mending The Line co-star Wes Studi (he plays Harrison) dearly appreciated.

“I think he’s absolutely an amazing actor from his storied career,” Wes gushed during his interview with Screenrant. “I came to understand that we almost worked together in The Last Of The Mohicans, but he had other commitments. He could have played the Grey Hair.”

Well, now they have, and he said “It was great to get to know him on a personal level and then as a scene partner. He was great to work with. He would keep you on your toes, you know? You have to listen and know what’s happening there and stay in the moment. Any actor can appreciate that.”

Both give terrific performances—and you don’t need to miss either one of them.

Mending The Line is now streaming on Netflix.
