Germany winger Sané still unsure of his role at home Euro 2024

Germany and Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané still doesn't know exactly which role coach Julian Nagelsmann has planned for him during the Euro 2024 on home soil.

"We haven't really talked about that. But we will do so, he has already said it," Sané told broadcasters Sky on Tesday. "We know each other well, we understand each other clearly."

Sané was suspended by football governing body FIFA for three games after receiving a red card in the 2-0 defeat to Austria in November.

He missed the 2-0 win over France at the weekend and won't be available for the friendly games against the Netherlands on Tuesday and Ukraine on June 3.

He could return against Greece on June 7, just one week before Germany's opening game at the Euro 2024 against Scotland.

"If everything goes normally, he'll get the chance to join a well-functioning group and then show what he can do," Nagelsmann said in a news conference on Monday.

The coach said that Sané is in his plans for the Euro 2024.

"He has a quality that we don't want to miss and can't be without. But it's also about him fitting in, which is why we have these conversations, in which each player can also think about whether he can cope with the role," Nagelsmann said.

As for his future at Bayern, Sané told broadcasters RTL that both he and his family feel very well in Munich, but he didn't went into details on negotiations for a contract extension.

"I have a few goals with the club, by all means winning the Champions League. We're still on track for that this season. We want to achieve it. Next year we have the final at our home, that's like the Euros on home soil," Sané said.

His contract with Bayern runs until summer 2025. In January, the winger said negotiations were on a "very, very good path."
