Forget Davis Keillor-Dunn… Wrexham must keep ‘exceptional’ Mansfield ace quiet on Friday

Wrexham know all about Davis Keillor-Dunn but there’s another star they must keep quiet in Friday’s clash against Mansfield.

Wrexham host Mansfield in a mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash in League Two on Friday afternoon.

Currently three points behind the league leaders, Phil Parkinson‘s men can go level on points with a victory over the Stags.

Arguably the division’s most impressive team having scored the most (79) and conceded the least number of goals this season (37), Mansfield are a threat all over the pitch with attacking midfielder Davis Keillor-Dunn leading their charge towards promotion.

Davis Keillor-Dunn’s season in numbers

Some of a Wrexham persuasion may remember that Keillor-Dunn used to play for Wrexham, spending the second half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan at the STōK Cae Ras from Ross County.

Upon arriving in Wales, the 26-year-old described the move as “perfect” and couldn’t wait to get going.

He said: “It’s a perfect match, I’ve heard a lot about the club and the supporters, it’s a really good move for me. I can’t wait to get going.”

Unfortunately, Keillor-Dunn embarked on a less-than-memorable spell at Wrexham, featuring just six times in the National League and scoring once – a strike in a 2-0 win against Bromley.

Despite failing to leave a mark at the Reds, he has since become a proficient operator in League Two, impressing at Oldham Athletic before joining Burton Albion and then Mansfield.

The attacking midfielder is enjoying a sensational campaign, supplying an impressive 19 goals and nine assists for the Stags. It’s such numbers that can strike fear into Wrexham on Friday, however, Keillor-Dunn isn’t the only player whom Parkinson’s men must be wary of.

Wrexham must keep Lucas Akins quiet

For those who have watched third and fourth-tier football across the past decade, Lucas Akins is a player who will have cropped up multiple times, predominantly for his time at Burton Albion.

The seasoned EFL veteran spent eight campaigns at the Pirelli Stadium, making 346 appearances and supplying 99 goal contributions.

A centre-forward by nature, Akins has played in almost every position during his successful career, including regular appearances as a right-back, left-back, attacking midfielder and winger.

Currently being used as a striker by Mansfield alongside youngster Will Swan, Akins has played in all but one game in League Two this term, despite celebrating his 35th birthday last month.

It appears the “exceptional” ace is ageing like a fine wine having netted 16 goal contributions in all competitions, including seven in his last 10 matches.

The powerful forward is a force to be reckoned with, particularly at this level, with Parkinson needing to be wary of the threat he poses.

Manager Nigel Clough, who worked with him at Burton, won’t be afraid to fire ammunition into him and whip crosses into the box.

Wrexham must not take him for granted in this match as the league’s top scorers can fire at any time and Akins will be the likely candidate to do so.
