August 6th every year is Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Day.

Many origami cranes are dedicated to the Atomic Bomb Child statue, which is modeled after a girl who continued to weave origami cranes to pray for her recovery.

The author, who was born and raised in the eastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, has been conscious of this day ever since he was a child. For example, August 6th was the day during the summer vacation, but it was designated as a day to go to school to watch movies, listen to lectures, and learn about peace. There are many opportunities to learn about peace throughout the year, and during our elementary school field trip, we visited the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Museum. Many people born and raised in Hiroshima Prefecture have had similar experiences.

There are also many tourists from overseas.

For the people of Hiroshima, the desire for peace is very important. The same is true for us at SPINGLE Co., Ltd, whose head office and factory are located in Hiroshima Prefecture. In the spirit of praying for peace, SPINGLE Co., Ltd recycled origami cranes into thread and made sneakers.

By making these sneakers, we continue to send out our wishes for peace from Fuchu City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

Peace Memorial Park

[place_master_id=2326 show_photos embed]

This is a very clean park that is well kept. Some people pray for peace, others lie down on benches, and everyone is free to spend their time. In addition to the Atomic Bomb Dome, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, and the Atomic Bomb Children's Statue, there are many cenotaphs and monuments within the park. It is a popular place for citizens to relax. In spring, the cherry blossom trees along the river are in full bloom, making it a very popular spot for cherry blossom viewing.

Also, from Orizuru Tower, you can see a panoramic view of Peace Memorial Park. I've never been to this place, so it's definitely a spot I'd like to visit. You can take great photos of the Atomic Bomb Dome from HIROSHIMA GATE PARK.

Hiroshima Andersen

This is a famous bakery in Hiroshima and is loved by locals. It is about a 10-minute walk from Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. It's easy to find your destination by walking through a shopping street with an arcade. From the glass-enclosed store, you can smell the aroma of freshly baked bread and see the bustling crowd. You can not only take out bread, sweets, and side dishes, but also eat in for light meals or eat at the restaurant. The building was originally a renovated bank that was exposed to radiation, and even now that it has been completely renovated, some parts of the building that were exposed to radiation still remain.

Former Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch

I have visited once. This retro Western-style building is reminiscent of Showa era Japan. The interior of the building has a profound feel, and traces of the atomic bomb can be seen here and there. It is also sometimes used as an art-related exhibition venue.

radiation-exposed train

There are some tram cars running in Hiroshima City that have been exposed to radiation. It seems that it is still in operation today, so the train you happened to ride may have been the one that was exposed to radiation.

In addition to the places we have introduced, there are still many other spots you should visit. The wish for peace has been passed down from generation to generation, with new buildings featuring artwork wishing for peace.
