Report: West Ham could appoint 45-yo who's ranked world's 17th best manager to replace Moyes

West Ham United hierarchy apparently could appoint the world’s 17th best manager to replace David Moyes.

David Moyes has done a fine job since returning to the London Stadium for the second time in December 2019, so if the West Ham board are to replace him, it will not be an easy decision to make.

The Hammers board were said to be angry with the Scot after some of his press conferences last month. The arrogance oozed off Moyes as he reminded the West Ham fans that he wins more than anyone else who’s been in charge of our club.

The thing is, the 60-year-old has worked miracles in his role as Hammers boss. He has guided us to three consecutive European campaigns and led us to our first major trophy since 1980 last season.

However, the football that he continues to serve up has been turgid on the most part – a dull, slow-paced brand of supposed entertainment that many West Ham fans have grown tired of.

So who could come in to the London Stadium and genuinely take us to another level? There is one name that keeps cropping up, and he’d be a stunning replacement for the Scot in my view…

West Ham could appoint world’s 17th best manager to replace Moyes

The Hammers could be all set for change at the end of this season, with Moyes’s current contract set to expire.

As many as 12 players could leave the London Stadium before the start of next season, so there will undoubtedly be plenty of change to the playing staff.

If Moyes does leave, there will be some big changes to the coaching staff as well, and it seems as though the West Ham owners have a really exciting name lined up to replace the Scot.

The 60-year-old has been very good for us but the general consensus is that he has reached his ceiling in charge of the East London outfit, and it’s up for debate as to whether he can take us forward anymore.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, the Hammers hierarchy are big admirers of Feyenoord boss Arne Slot – a man who we’ve been linked with on numerous occasions before.

He’d be perfect to replace Moyes

Well renowned football magazine Four Four Two named Slot as the world’s 17th best manager back in November. Interestingly, Moyes was ranked in 36th place on the same list.

Feyenoord are on another planet to the Hammers when it comes to intensity, ability to press their opponents high up the pitch and the patterns of play that they execute.

Slot took over at Feyenoord in the summer of 2021 and has taken the Dutch giants to another level in two-and-a-half years.

He guided them to a third place finish in his first season at De Kuip. The Dutchman also took his side to the Europa Conference League final in the 2021/22 season, only to lose to Roma in the final, but things have got even better since then.

Feyenoord won the league last season out in Holland and this term, his side are second in the Eredivisie table, although they’re 10 points adrift of runaway leaders PSV Eindhoven.

Slot deploys an attacking brand of free-flowing football at Feyenoord and I think he’d be the ideal man to usher West Ham into an exciting new era of success.

He predominantly uses a 4-2-3-1 system but also switches up to a 4-3-3 at times. Slot’s managerial style has been likened to Marcelo Bielsa.

The Feyenoord boss likes his full-backs to push high up the pitch with his two centre-back’s splitting and a ‘ball-playing’ goalkeeper essentially becoming a third defender. He is the man we should be going after is you ask me.

If Arne Slot is the man to replace David Moyes at West Ham, I think we could be set for really exciting times ahead.
