'Never': Gary Neville names three managers who he just can't see at Manchester United

Gary Neville has now named three managers who he simply cannot see replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Despite reaching a second successive FA Cup semi-final this season, there are some doubts around Erik ten Hag following the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Old Trafford.

Several managers have been linked with the Dutchman’s job – including three British coaches – although Gary Neville cannot see any of them actually taking over at Manchester United

Well, the 49-year-old spoke on The Overlap about Ten Hag potentially being replaced.

So far, Graham Potter has been linked with the job – due to the fact Ratcliffe considered the Englishman for a role at his OGC Nice in France.

More recently, Gary O’Neil has seen his name attached to Manchester United thanks to a stunning season at Wolves against all odds – the Old Gold currently sit ninth in the Premier League.

There have also been stories tipping Gareth Southgate to replace Ten Hag when he leaves his job in charge of the England National Team – although Neville cannot see any of the three British managers arriving at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United legend said: “Even Gareth, as well as he has done with England, I have not seen the fit between him and Man United. I had never seen the fit between Graham Potter and Man United, that’s been a strong rumour.

“I don’t see the fit between Gary O’Neil and Man United. Instinctively, as a fan of a club, you feel it or you don’t, it’s not a feeling I’ve had. I’ve not had a feeling that, that (person) feels like a United manager.”

Gary O’Neil should not be overlooked

In our view, O’Neil is a name Manchester United should genuinely consider.

Of course, the man from Beckenham is not the most fashionable coach around.

Even Wolves fans felt underwhelmed when he arrived at Molineux back in August, something the 40-year-old touched on during a press conference earlier this season.

However, O’Neil is proving himself to be a top coach, specifically when it comes to getting the most from wide players such as Pedro Neto, who has three goals and ten assists in 23 Premier League appearances this season – Marcus Rashford could benefit from his coaching ability.

Furthermore, the Wolves boss is getting the best from his central midfielders, with Mario Lemina, Joao Gomes and Pablo Sarabia contributing in attack on a regular basis, so perhaps Bruno Fernandes would return to his goalscoring ways of old under O’Neil’s tutelage.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Ten Hag could be sacked unless he does something special to round off the 2023/24 campaign.
