Rugby star Rees-Zammit signs with Super Bowl champions Chiefs

Back-to-back Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs have signed European rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit to a three-year contract, the NFL team said on Friday.

A member of the Wales national team since 2020, Rees-Zammit announced in January that he was leaving rugby for an opportunity in the NFL. His next task will be to try to earn a regular-season roster spot.

Rees-Zammit played rugby as a wing. In the NFL, he has targeted a hybrid role playing at both wide receiver and running back, both offensive positions.

The player participated in the International Player Pathway Program workout earlier this month and showcased his talents to scouts from all 32 NFL teams in attendance.

According to the BBC, the 23-year-old drew interest from several NFL franchises, and also had meetings with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos.
