'Hard to believe': Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel makes comment about Arsenal before Champions League tie

Arsenal fans may have noticed that Tuchel’s Bayern side lost to Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at home yesterday in the Bundesliga, effectively ending their chances of winning the league.

Xabi Alonso’s impressive Bayer Leverkusen team could now be runaway winners, an incredible feat considering the position of the club when the Spaniard was appointed.

Of course, Harry Kane had moved to Bayern hoping for instant success, and will now have to focus on beating Arsenal to pursue that ambition.

Mikel Arteta’s side were confident in the penalty shootout against FC Porto in the last round, but were tested to every degree during the tie.

Porto proved to be a very tough stylistic match up for Arsenal, and Bayern won’t exactly be any easier.

The first leg of the tie takes place on 9th April at the Emirates, concluded a week later in Bavaria.

Thomas Tuchel claims Bayern can definitely beat Arsenal despite damaging Dortmund loss

With the tie now getting close, Thomas Tuchel was questioned on how ready his Bayern team will be to face Arsenal given their inconsistent form.

And speaking to ESPN reporter Archie Rhind-Tutt after the game, Tuchel explained why he’s still confident about beating the Gunners.

He said: “That is not the first time that it happens to us and it is not the first time that we bounce back with a crazy good performance.

“That is basically the hope, it is a bit strange but also if we are honest we could not guarantee that if today [against Dortmund] we perform to our highest level, that we do this again against Heidnheim.

“This is our point since many, many months that we struggle to find our consistency, so today we didn’t find [it], now we will prepare for Heidenheim and we are able to beat Arsenal, even if today this is very hard to believe.

“But we have very different performances within a short period of time, so this is not new for us.”

Arsenal can never feel too confident against Harry Kane

Of course, given just how strong Harry Kane’s record is against Arsenal, fans would be reminded to keep their feet on the ground.

Tuchel’s Bayern side may not be in their best form right now, but Kane has still scored 14 goals in 19 games against Arsenal, and he’s not exactly slowed down this season either.

In all competitions for Bayern, Kane has now scored an outrageous 37 goals in 36 games.

And although goals are shared around at Arsenal, Bukayo Saka remains the highest scorer with 16 in 37 matches played.

And quite pertintently to that point, Martin Keown was extremely impressed with a striker linked with Arsenal yesterday.
