'He's been': Alexis Mac Allister says Mohamed Salah asked him to do something more often vs Brighton today

Alexis Mac Allister revealed after the game that he delivered on what Mohamed Salah has been asking him to do more often against Brighton.

In the end, it was thanks to Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister that Liverpool got a much needed victory over Brighton.

Mac Allister’s sumptuous pass, threaded perfectly through Brighton’s defence, found Mohamed Salah in a position where the Egyptian is impossible to stop. He delivered with a deadly finish to give Liverpool a lead they would hold on to.

Both Salah and Mac Allister were extremely active on the pitch. Mac Allister coming up against his former side delivered a masterclass, creating the most chances (6) on the pitch, and making the most key passes (5) as well according to Fotmob.

Meanwhile, Salah took 12 shots during the game – the most he has ever taken in a single game in the Premier League. Unfortunately, for Salah though, Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen was in terrific form in between the sticks and made some excellent saves to deny him.

Alexis Mac Allister on what Mohamed Salah asked him to do before the game

This was only the second time Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah combined to score a goal since the Argentine arrived at Anfield.

The first goal participation between the two players came against Brentford, where Salah set-up Mac Allister in a 4-1 win for Liverpool.

Which means despite having provided six previous assists, Mac Allister hadn’t yet assisted Salah until today.

Speaking after the game, Mac Allister revealed this was something Salah had been asking him to do before the match. Speaking to Sky Sports, Mac Allister also praised Salah for his quality.

“He’s been asking for some passes and assists from me during the week. In the first half we tried to be connected. He missed a couple but then in the second half he showed his qualities,” Mac Allister said.

Is Mac Allister Liverpool’s player of the season?

Today was another fine performance from the Argentine. He was undoubtedly one of Liverpool’s best performers, if not the best outright.

His seventh assists in all competitions now means he has 12 goal contributions from midfield for Liverpool – that’s the joint most goal contribution from midfield alongside Dominik Szoboszlai.

Mac Allister has also almost been ever present throughout the season. He has stepped up when needed to play the number six role, and has never let the Reds down.

It’s difficult to argue against him being a Player of the Season contender for Liverpool. He’s been right up there with the very best this season.
