Rangers hopes of securing £2.5m summer deal continue to rise amid title-chasing drama

Sam Lammers looked like he was going to give old side PSV a late Easter Sunday treat but the Utrecht Rangers loanee’s offering has just fallen short.

The 26-year-old Dutch forward has been back finding his love of the beautiful game once more in the Netherlands and was once again involved in the Eredivisie this weekend.

Sam Lammers netted a penalty to restore Utrecht’s lead over Feyenoord before half-time, before PSV Eindhoven’s only realistic title challengers roared back in the second period.

Scoring three goals to turn the match around and win the game 4-2, it closes the gap at the top of the Dutch top flight to seven points after PSV’s first league defeat of the season this weekend.

Having knocked Rangers out of the Champions League playoff way back in August, it’s taken to March for PSV to taste a league defeat with NEC beating them 3-1 over the weekend.

Sam Lammers with yet another Utrecht goal

Whilst Sam Lammers was unable to get his old side PSV out of jail, the Rangers loanee continues to impress with Utrecht.

Scoring from the penalty spot in this clash, it was Lammers’ fourth goal since joining the Dutch club in January and his third league strike on the trot.

It appears to have been an inspired move for the striker, who is back in the Netherlands after largely unsuccessful spells, at least on a personal level, in Italy, Germany, and Scotland.

There’s plenty of chatter surrounding a summer move and Rangers potentially recouping up to £2.5m on the forward who struggled in Scotland in the first half of the season.

Utrecht pushed hard to sign the forward in January and there is expected to be interest in Lammers’ services come the summer.

Rangers boosted by returning forward options

Rangers meanwhile have been boosted by fresh forward options coming back into the side after the international break.

Cyriel Dessers and January signing Fabio Silva have been able to fill the 31-match void left by Sam Lammers in January, whilst Tom Lawrence is back fit and around the first team.

Abdallah Sima returned to the fold against Hibs, with Kieran Dowell and Kemar Roofe also looking to build up match fitness and return in the weeks ahead.

With Rabbi Matondo netting a stunner in the 3-1 victory, and Scott Wright and Ross McCausland also playing, suddenly Rangers look to have options in the team.

Given that Sam Lammers was struggling to make an impact at the club, and his success with Utrecht, it looks like the loan move is so far working out for everyone.
