TV star's fears as elderly mother stops chemotherapy - 'It's a horrible idea'

Doubling Down with the Derricos is back this May and a sneak preview of what’s to come shows how Deon and Karen Derrico have a lot of stress to deal with these days. Not only is the couple managing a household of 14 kids, but they’re moving home, and the grandmother of the family, Marian ‘GG’ Derrico has news regarding her chemotherapy treatment.

TLC viewers learned of GG’s cancer battle last season. Doubling Down with the Derricos featured some super emotional moments as the family dealt with the disease, and Deon also got tearful remembering his late brother. The 74-year-old is still in the midst of major health worries as she makes an announcement to her family this season.

Marian ‘GG’ Derrico’s cancer battle

Since TLC viewers first met Marian Derrico, they’ve seen how the reality TV star has been through a lot when it comes to her health.

The grandmother featured on Doubling Down with the Derricos has her work cut out with 14 grandkids to look after.

GG dealt with a cancer diagnosis during the show, as well as being rushed to the hospital and having heart surgery a couple of years back.

Following her surgery, she was fully “on the mend,” but now GG is still in the middle of a cancer battle.

GG wants to stop chemotherapy

GG’s family members break down in tears during the Doubling Down with the Derricos trailer this April.

She tells her son while driving in the car: “The chemo has got me to this point and now I’m ready to try something else.”

The trailer then cuts to a scene of GG telling the whole family: “I’ve decided I’m going to stop doing chemotherapy.”

Deon adds in a confessional how he “does not want” his mom to “stop chemotherapy.” He says: “I think it’s a horrible idea.”

GG’s granddaughter sobs beside her on the couch following her chemo news.

The TLC star was last posting on Instagram late last year. She took to the ‘gram last December to wish her granddaughter, Darian, a Happy 18th Birthday.

Deon also responded to fans’ comments on Karen’s IG post who said they “miss GG.” He said: “You will see GG, and the rest of us 05/14/2024 which is the premier of our all-new season 5, on TLC.”
