'Ready for a transfer': Sky Sports journalist says Ange Postecoglou wants to sign £60m player for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a new player ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Spurs have having a very good season in the Premier League. They are fourth in the table right now, ahead of Aston Villa despite playing a game less than Unai Emery’s side.

Tottenham look like the favourites to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and that would be an extraordinary achievement from Ange Postecoglou in his first season at the helm.

Irrespective of what happens this summer, Tottenham need reinforcements, and a new defender’s name has now come out of the rumour mill.

Ange Postecoglou wants to sign French defender for Tottenham

Tottenham are almost guaranteed to strengthen their defence in the upcoming summer transfer window.

“If you’re saying ‘is it an area we can strengthen?’, yes it’s an area we will probably look at,” said the Australian when asked if his side will sign a new centre-back (Football London).

That all but confirms it, and over the last few weeks, Tottenham have been linked with a number of options who can play across the backline.

A new name has emerged this week – RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan.

Sky Sports Germany journalists Philipp Hinze and Florian Plettenberg have both revealed that Tottenham, along with Newcastle United, are interested in signing the versatile Frenchman this summer.

Simakan is very highly rated in Germany and is capable of playing as a central defender and also at right-back. He is a key player for Leipzig and they are keen to hold onto him.

The 23-year-old, however, is said to be open to a move away from Germany this summer and the Premier League appeals to him, which is good news for Spurs.

However, Simakan’s release clause is set at around £60 million, which is why Leipzig are relaxed about the situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

Mohamed Simakan is similar to Manchester United star

Mohamed Simakan is a very talented young defender, and it’s no surprise that Tottenham are interested in his services this summer.

The Frenchman, still just 23 years old, has impressed at RB Leipzig this season. He has a bright future ahead of him and has already been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United over the last 12 months.

Tottenham are right to target Simakan. He’s young, versatile and has massive potential, which checks all the boxes Spurs usually look for in a player.

What would be even more exciting for Tottenham fans is that Simakan has been compared to a World Cup and Champions League winner – Raphael Varane, who plays for Manchester United.

Strasbourg boss Francois Keller once claimed: “He had fared averagely in some tests, but we blindly trusted his coaches. We then quickly understood we were dealing with a phenomenon. He was wiping the floor with people.

“I put him in the third tier, and it wasn’t enough for him. Well, I like to make comparisons, but I told myself we had the new Varane. He was athletic and powerful, but exuded calm.”
