France raises security measures around PSG-Barca after terror threat

France has beefed up security around Wednesday's Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, with a reported police force of around 1,000 in place in the wake of a terror threat.

This week's quarter-final matches are taking after an Islamic State threat against them via a media outlet linked to the group.

Citing police sources, Le Parisien paper said that additional mobile police units and patrols will be in place for the match at Parc des Princes stadium.

It said that riot police would be in the vicinity of the venue, with drones and other technology also used to safeguard the match.

Le Figaro said that 1,000 police officers would be on duty for the first leg match.

A government spokeswoman said there was no direct threat against the match.

France raised its security alert to the highest level after the terrorist attack on a concert venue near Moscow last month which has led to stricter security measures in the country.

Nine years ago, the Stade de France appeared to have been one target in coordinated Islamist State attacks in Paris in which 130 people died.

Suicide bombers detonated their explosives outside the arena after seemingly failing to gain entry, with France playing Germany in a friendly international at the time.
