'He delivers': Pundit says £20m Arsenal star has actually become one of Mikel Arteta's best ever signings

Anton Ferdinand believes that one £20 million deal Arsenal have done under Mikel Arteta has proved to be one of their best squad signings – following the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

Arsenal have given themselves a fighting chance of reaching the semi-final of the Champions League. They drew the first-leg at the Emirates.

And they may feel that they should have had more after Bukayo Saka went down inside the penalty area in the final moments under the challenge of Manuel Neuer.

Arsenal had gone into the break 2-1 down. But the changes Mikel Arteta made seemed to help turn the tide of the game.

Oleksandr Zinchenko impressed after coming on for Jakub Kiwior. Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus set up Leandro Trossard for the equaliser after their introductions.

Leandro Trossard has been one of Arsenal’s best signings

Trossard has had a knack of scoring some hugely important goals for Arsenal, including the equaliser in the previous round against Porto.

And if they go on to achieve something special this year, that goal against Bayern may be remembered as a pivotal moment.

Speaking on The Take On, Anton Ferdinand suggested that the initial £20 million deal to sign the Belgian is one of the best Edu and Arteta have done.

“It was no coincidence when Trossard came on and Jesus came on there was a difference. Jesus, I thought was brilliant when he came on. And Trossard, I think, has been probably one of the best signings Arsenal have made in terms of their squad,” he said.

“Because he doesn’t sulk when he doesn’t play. And when he comes on and when he plays, he delivers.”

Forward has arguably done what neither Kai Havertz or Declan Rice have managed yet

Certainly, pound for pound, it is hard to think of many better deals Arsenal have done in recent years.

Players such as Kai Havertz and Declan Rice have come in and justified the fees paid for them. But Trossard has surely surpassed expectations.

He has 26 goal involvements in 60 games for the Gunners in all competitions. And he is someone who can play right across the attack.

Even if he ends up costing the full £27 million, it has to be considered a huge bargain.
