Fridays for Future plans 'art action' in Berlin on April 19

The Fridays for Future movement is looking to raise awareness for climate protection with an unspecified art action in Berlin on Friday next week.

At the same time, there will also be actions in other places in Germany and demonstrations worldwide.

"In Berlin, we are not mobilizing the masses this time, but rather setting the stage for science as part of an action," Fridays for Future told dpa in Berlin.

"We are taking this step quite deliberately: while no continent is heating up as much as Europe, climate denial and climate relativization are escalating in the political and public sphere here too."

The European elections in June will be a "climate election," according to Fridays for Future. The movement recalled that the European Court of Human Rights has just ruled that a lack of climate protection violates human rights.

"With our campaign, we are calling on people to use their voices and urge politicians to act in a way that reflects the most existential crisis of all time."

The climate activists also warned against a weakening of the German Climate Protection Act. The reform is still being debated between the parties of Germany's coalition government - the Social Democratic Party, the Greens and the pro-business Fre Democrats.
