Report: Kalvin Phillips dealt fresh setback while on loan away from Man City

Kalvin Phillips has been dealt a big blow during his current loan spell at West Ham United from Manchester City.

During the previous January transfer window, the midfielder joined the east London club on loan until the end of the season.

After a run of poor performances and mistakes, the Englishman found himself having to be defended by David Moyes after Phillips had a run-in with some West Ham fans who were not shy in sharing their disappointment with the player.

Now though, the England international, who was looking to end his season on a positive note with the Hammers, has been dealt another unfortunate setback.

In a recent X post ahead of tonight’s Europa League quarter-final first-leg game between West Ham and Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, journalist Jack Rosser said this on the matter.

He said: “Phillips expected to be out for around a fortnight. Picked up his hamstring injury in training on Tuesday.”

Bad to worse for Kalvin Phillips

Since joining the Hammers, the midfielder has featured in nine games across the Premier League and Europa League, starting just three of them.

Phillips’ performances across the seven league games he’s appeared in for West Ham have earned him an overall season rating of 5.82/10 from WhoScored, making him the lowest-rated player in Moyes’ squad.

In addition to Moyes having to defend the 27-year-old, Hammers striker Michail Antonio also shared his words of encouragement for Phillips by saying how this would be the ideal time to get behind him and help him get his confidence back up.

Now that the Englishman has suffered a hamstring injury and will likely be out of action for a couple of weeks, this won’t help him prove to the West Ham fans that signing him wasn’t a waste of time for everyone involved.
