Paul Mullin names his Wrexham Man of the Match after beating Crawley Town

Wrexham have moved another step closer to promotion after beating Crawley Town 4-1 with a superb performance on Tuesday night.

Back at home after two games on the road, Phil Parkinson was looking for another victory after coming from behind to beat Colchester United away from home.

Crawley Town were the visitors to the STōK Cae Ras, posing a tricky proposition as they seek to lock down a spot in the League Two play-offs.

Wrexham blew them away though, taking a 2-0 lead in the first half as Ryan Barnett and Paul Mullin found the net.

Andy Cannon made it 3-0 before Mullin added another, racing onto a short back pass to take a 4-0 lead.

Crawley did pull one back late in the day but it was merely a consolation as Wrexham claimed another huge victory.

With just three games to go, Wrexham are so close to promotion and a win over Forest Green Rovers would get the job almost done.

Paul Mullin on Andy Cannon

Mullin may have scored two goals on Tuesday night, but most of the praise has actually been going towards midfielder Cannon instead.

The 28-year-old has been superb of late and was a real driving force against Crawley.

Cannon assisted Mullin’s opener before getting on the scoresheet himself, following in to score from close range.

Cannon has taken to Instagram to celebrate, posting two heart emojis – one red and one white – to show his love for Wrexham

Mullin offered a reply, calling Cannon his Man of the Match in the process.

‘MOM, bout time my G’ said Mullin, congratulating his teammate on a fine performance.

Both George Evans and Elliot Lee offered their support for Cannon too, whilst James McClean joked ‘that’s my window cleaner’.

Cannon stats v Crawley Town

Cannon was simply exceptional against Crawley and Mullin was right to pick him out as the man of the match.

The former Stockport County man took four shots and landed two on target, just like Mullin.

Cannon also produced three key passes – passes directly leading to a shot – which was more than any other Wrexham player.

The defensive side of the game was on show too as Cannon recorded three tackles, two clearances and even blocked one shot.

Cannon has been a superb addition to the Wrexham side and his contribution will not be forgotten if promotion can be secured in the coming weeks.
