If there’s one thing missing from this Arsenal team at the moment it’s a prolific striker.
The Gunners don’t struggle in front of goal per se, but they don’t have that one clinical player who can always be relied upon to find the back of the net.
The reality is that prolific strikers are hard to come by these days, and even if you do sign a striker with a proven track record, that doesn’t guarantee that they’ll score for you – there have been countless flops over the years.
Speaking on FilthyFellas, Ashley Williams has been discussing one such striker who has flopped in the Premier League with Chelsea – Romelu Lukaku, and the pundit reckons that the Belgian would also have struggled at Arsenal.
Romelu Lukaku would’ve struggled at Arsenal
Williams spoke about Lukaku and the idea of the target man joining Arsenal.
“Lukaku is one of the most underrated players even to now. Check his record, he can be so frustrating at times, but who else can you put in that bracket who is so big how strong he is and he scores goals,” Williams said.
“Let me ask you this Ashley because someone said this, do you think Arsenal should’ve grabbed him, Lukaku? This season,” Williams was asked.
“Hmm, I don’t think that team is set up for him and I think he needs a team that are going to,” Williams said.
Romelu Lukaku at Arsenal would be interesting
Williams reckons that Lukaku would’ve struggled at Arsenal, but we’re not so sure.
This Arsenal team do create a lot of chances, and while they do need a striker who presses from the front, perhaps they could still operate just as well with someone like Lukaku leading the line.
He’s physical enough and he knows where the back of the net is.
Lukaku to Arsenal was never on the cards, but it would’ve been interesting to see this one play out.
