Laura Woods broke silence over how Roy Keane acts off camera during punditry, it’s a real eye-opener

TV presenter Laura Woods offered a rare insight into what Roy Keane is really like when the Manchester United legend is not on camera during his punditry duties.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has become one of the leading faces in punditry after he walked away from his managerial and coaching career.

Keane has been a recurring figure in the Sky Sports studio and hasn’t been afraid to pull any punches when offering up his analysis on Premier League matches.

The 52-year-old Irish hardman, who is regarded as one of the best captains of all time, has also taken up punditry duties for ITV during the FA Cup this season.

Along with his punditry for club football, Keane has been in the studio for matches at international level and acted as a pundit at major tournaments like the World Cup.

Despite becoming a prominent figure in punditry, the former Manchester United midfielder has flirted with the idea of returning to management in the future.

Keane, who had a prolific impact at Old Trafford, has been out of the managerial dugout for over a decade after he was sacked from Ipswich Town in 2011.

Following his ill-fated spell at Ipswich Town, the ex-United captain served as assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

Laura Woods on Man Utd legend Keane

Laura Woods has become a fan favourite in the sport, having worked in her role as a TV presenter for the likes of ITV, Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports.

The 36-year-old presenter led the coverage for ITV during Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Peterborough in the fifth round of the FA Cup in 2022.

Joining Woods for the FA Cup coverage at the time was none other than Roy Keane, who made a lasting impression on the TNT Sports and ITV presenter.

The former talkSPORT host admitted that she had previously been a “little bit scared” of the Manchester United legend after working with him before.

However, Woods’ experience with Keane was much different and she admitted that she was “obsessed” with him and thinks he is the “best person.”

“The game in itself, Peterborough put up such a good fight in the first half and the quality wasn’t quite there for Man City,” Woods said on talkSPORT in 2022.

“You know what City can do, but it wasn’t quite there.

“The highlight for me, though, was sitting next to Roy Keane. I’m obsessed, I just think he’s the best person.

“He was wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I’ve worked with him once before in the Carabao Cup final last year and was a little bit scared of him because you are as you know his persona.”

Woods talks Keane’s punditry

Woods revealed that she sat alongside Keane for the coverage of the City match in 2022 and probed him for his thoughts while the cameras weren’t on them.

The ex-Sky Sports presenter was in awe at her experience with Keane and called the former Republic of Ireland and United skipper “so warm.”

Woods admitted that she was “quite overwhelmed” by the United legend, with the fan-favourite presenter loving her time on TV with Keane.

“Maybe I’ve been lucky. With a pundit, all you can ask is they answer all your questions,” she added.

“During the game, I just sat next to him for a little bit to say, ‘Tell me what you think Peterborough are doing right, what more do you want from City?’

“He was so generous with his information and so warm, I just loved it. It was great. […] I’m always quite overwhelmed by Roy Keane.”
