Controversial high-profile figure will make long awaited return for West Ham vs Fulham clash

West Ham United play host to Fulham in the Premier League tomorrow afternoon at the London Stadium.

The race for the European spots in the Premier League table is really beginning to heat up now, and West Ham are in desperate need of another three points this weekend.

The Hammers fans will be feeling low after the battering from Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night – the likes of Jacob Steinberg described Moyes’s tactics as ’embarrassing’.

However, the players have to respond to that performance out in Germany. Nothing less than a victory against Fulham will do.

David Moyes is under real pressure. Trust me, the home fans will not accept a sit back and soak up the pressure approach tomorrow.

Fulham are nothing special. That said they did beat us 5-0 earlier this term, but we were god awful that day.

Now’s the time for the Hammers to get some revenge. However, there will be an interesting side story on display this weekend…

That’s because the Premier League’s official website has confirmed that Darren England will be on VAR duty for the West Ham vs Fulham clash at the London Stadium tomorrow.

The 38-year-old caused huge controversy back in September 2023 when he was on VAR duty for the Tottenham vs Liverpool clash.

Luis Diaz’s goal for the Reds was inexplicably ruled out when England told referee Simon Hooper ‘check complete’, in the belief that he was awarding the goal rather than ruling it out.

Since then, he hasn’t be involved in VAR and has only refereed the odd game. He’s been the fourth official on a few occasions but now he will be tasked with watching the game from behind the screens.

Darren England West Ham stats

The Hammers have recorded two wins a draw and three defeats in the six games that England has refereed for us (Transfermarkt).

England refereed our clash with Burnley back in March and angered the home fans by denying us a penalty late on in the game.

Whilst he won’t be officiating our game on the pitch this weekend, he will still have to power to effect the outcome of the result because he’s in charge of VAR.

After such a gross error, England should think himself very lucky that he is back at the top table. I can’t think of another elite profession where that would be the case!

West Ham vs Fulham kicks off tomorrow at 2pm.
