‘I would like to point out’: Ally McCoist really impressed with 21-year-old Newcastle player vs Tottenham Hotspur

Newcastle United have been in good form lately, and they continued that run with a comfortable win against Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

Eddie Howe’s side beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at home in the Premier League.

Newcastle United scored two goals in the first half and found the back of the net twice again in the second period. Tottenham were defensively dire, especially for the first two goals.

The Magpies had won two of their previous three Premier League matches heading into the encounter against Tottenham, who are aiming to beat Aston Villa to the fourth spot in the Premier League table this season.

Newcastle were defensively very good against Spurs and deservedly kept a clean sheet.

One player who was responsible for Newcastle being strong at the back was Elliot Anderson.

Anderson was deployed on the left of a three-man midfield. Newcastle lined up in a 4-3-3 formation against Spurs.

What Elliot Anderson was doing for Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur

The 21-year-old midfielder often dropped into defence and helped Dan Burn at left-back, which impressed former Sunderland striker and TNT Sports pundit Ally McCoist.

Anderson took five shots of which one was on target, had a pass accuracy of 69.2%, won four headers, took 48 touches, attempted three dribbles, made one tackle, one interception and five clearances, and put in three crosses.

McCoist said about Anderson on TNT Sports 1: “I would like to point out Elliot Anderson, great cover in the left-back position when he has dropped into that five.”

Newcastle finishing the season strongly

Newcastle United have had a disappointing season and are not going to end up in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

The Magpies are not even going to finish fifth. Eddie Howe’s side played in the UEFA Champions League this season.

However, Newcastle are finishing the season on a high. If they continue to win matches and play well like they did against Tottenham, then there is a very good chance that they could finish above Manchester United and West Ham United.
