‘3 steps back’: Lord Sugar reacts to Tottenham Hotspur defeat to Newcastle United

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a blow in their quest to beat Unai Emery’s Aston Villa to the Premier League top four.

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are fighting for the fourth and potentially final UEFA Champions League spot in the Premier League table this season.

Spurs took on Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park in the league on Saturday afternoon.

The North London club lost 4-0. Newcastle scored two goals in the first half and found the back of the net two more times in the second half. The Magpies were very good defensively.

Tottenham central defender Micky van de Ven was at fault for the opening two goals that Newcastle scored.

Reaction to Tottenham Hotspur defeat to Newcastle United

It was a poor performance from Ange Postecoglou’s side, and, as you can see below, Lord Sugar was not impressed.

The former Tottenham chairman thinks that Spurs have suffered a setback in their quest for UEFA Champions League football.

Former Tottenham player and talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara was not happy either, while Newcastle legend Alan Shearer is pleased to see the Magpies win.

Tottenham are now fifth in the Premier League table with 60 points from 32 matches, level on points with Villa, who are fourth and will face Arsenal on Sunday.

Blow for Tottenham

Winning against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park was always going to be tough, but the performance of Tottenham Hotspur was really dire.

For a team aiming to play in the UEFA Champions League next season, a 4-0 defeat is really damaging and, frankly, embarrassing.

Tottenham’s next Premier League game is against Arsenal. The North London club will then face Chelsea, Liverpool, Burnley, Manchester City and Sheffield United.

It is going to get tough for Spurs.
