Top source close to West Ham owners responds to new Mourinho claim

A top source close to the West Ham owners has responded to the new Jose Mourinho claim that is doing the rounds.

The future of David Moyes continues to dominate the news agenda at West Ham.

It’s hardly surprising given his contract expires this summer and the Scot has insisted it is he who is stalling on signing a new one.

The club’s hierarchy insist a decision will be made either way at the end of the season.

And that could be just four weeks away if West Ham cannot turn around their Europa League quarter-final tie against Bayer Leverkusen.

A host of managers have been linked as potential replacements for Moyes at West Ham.

One name which keeps cropping up every few months is Jose Mourinho.

Back in October it was claimed Mourinho could replace Moyes in the Hammers hotseat when he leaves Roma.

That was expedited when he was sacked in January.

It was not the first time that Mourinho, 61, had been linked with the West Ham manager’s job either.

The Hammers hierarchy were allegedly eyeing him up to replace Moyes during the dark days of last season.

Now a top source close to the West Ham owners has responded to a new Mourinho claim.

According to TeamTalk, the out of work ‘Special One’ is again being tipped to take over from Moyes this summer.

Hammers News put the new claims to the top source inside West Ham.

As far as sources go, they don’t get much better.

And as far as responses go, they don’t get more emphatic.

When asked whether there was any truth to the rumours West Ham are considering appointing Mourinho, the key contact – in capital letters for emphasis – said: “ZERO.”

There would undoubtedly and understandably be concerns about the drama and circus Mourinho might bring to the club after a period of stability under Moyes.

Some would also argue that the Portuguese’s style of football is no better than that of Moyes.

On the other hand Mourinho is a serial winner, a record he continued with Roma – lifting the Europa Conference League before then leading them to the Europa League final.

There is simply no comparison between the CVs of Moyes and Mourinho. Moyes has admitted as much himself, often lauding Mourinho as one of the managers he looks up to the most.

He can also be box office and brings strong connections and pull in the transfer market.

But there is clearly no truth in the latest gossip – as proved by the unequivocal response to Hammers News’ question to the source close to the owners.

Mourinho has also hit out at Roma’s sporting director over transfers since his sacking. That’s something he has done before at his previous clubs.

So it hardly seems likely West Ham would risk upsetting key asset Tim Steidten knowing he could do the same at the London Stadium.
