'Absolutely awesome': Neil Lennon says 30-year-old Liverpool player did something world-class vs Palace today

Neil Lennon was really impressed by what Liverpool’s 30-year-old did against Crystal Palace in the first-half today.

After a disappointing run of results, Liverpool desperately needed to bounce back against Crystal Palace with a win.

But the Reds could not have asked for a worse start. Within just 15 minutes, Crystal Palace took the lead at Anfield through a goal thanks to Eberechi Eze.

It was a goal that was poorly defended by Liverpool. The Reds allowed Palace’s full-back Tyrick Mitchell to run into the box and left Eze completely unmarked to score an easy tap in.

But things could have gotten even worse just a few minutes later when Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta was sent clean through on goal.

Neil Lennon on Andy Robertson’s ‘world-class’ contribution

Mateta seemingly only had Alisson to beat and chipped the ball over the Brazilian. It would have been the perfect finish against a goalkeeper who is notoriously difficult to beat in these situations.

However, with the ball seemingly heading into the back of the net, Andy Robertson came out of nowhere and somehow, in the nick of time, caught up with the ball and cleared it just on the line.

The 30-year-old prevented a certain goal for Liverpool, which could have made things a lot more difficult for the Reds on the afternoon.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live, Neil Lennon was full of praise for Robertson describing his intervention as ‘world-class.’

“That is absolutely awesome,” Lennon said. “What a brilliant passage of football that is. Again, the outball is Eze because of Bradley’s position.

“Mateta is in one on one, I thought he was a bit casual with the finish and it is a brilliant goal-saving tackle on the line from Robertson. He couldn’t have timed that any better. It’s world-class from Robertson.

“How much of a wake-up call do Liverpool need? Credit to Palace, they have been brilliant.”

Andy Robertson back to his best form for Liverpool?

It’s been a difficult season for Andy Robertson. He made just three goal contributions in all competitions for Liverpool up until the Palace game.

However, he has shown signs that he is getting back to his best. Robertson registered an assist against Sheffield United and looked really positive in the first-half of this game against Palace as well.

He is still only 30-years-old, which means he should still have a few years left at the top of the game.
