Anxious wait for Earthy news as sickening blow halts West Ham clash for 10 minutes

There is an anxious wait for news on George Earthy news after a sickening blow halted West Ham’s defeat to Fulham for 10 minutes.

One of the very few bright moments in West Ham’s dismal 2-0 home defeat to Fulham was the introduction of youngster George Earthy.

The 19-year-old silky midfield talent came on as a substitute for Michail Antonio in the 82nd minute at the London Stadium.

David Moyes had little to lose given how things have panned out for his side in the last few days.

Earthy, who was hailed as a ‘player’ by Lucas Paqueta following his debut recently, showed some neat touches.

He linked up with Paqueta nicely on a couple of occasions. But he then suffered a seriously concerning injury when one of his own teammates smashed into him in an effort to win the ball.

Earthy looked like he had been knocked unconscious and worried West Ham stars rushed to the stricken midfielder.

Medics rushed onto the pitch alongside a buggy and stretcher as they told players to stay away from Earthy and not touch or move him given the blow to the head and neck area.

The game was halted for nearly 10 minutes and the young West Ham playmaker was eventually taken away on a stretcher by the buggy in what appeared to be a neck brace while being given oxygen.

There is now an anxious wait on Earthy news. Although it will presumably be too soon for Moyes to give a full update straight after the game.

The central midfielder, who can also play as a number 10, has been in sensational form for the under-21s this season.

He has over 20 goal contributions in as many games to his name so far (Transfermarkt).

Earthy has so much talent and potential and the sky is the limit for the young Hammer.

Let’s hope his injury is nothing in any way serious.

It certainly helps put things in perspective after a frustrating afternoon in east London.

West Ham failed to leapfrog Man United and Newcastle into the Premier League’s top six.

Now a fourth consecutive season of European football looks highly unlikely.
