'Maybe I'm wrong to say this': Andy Gray shares the one positive about Liverpool after losing to Palace today

Liverpool’s title hopes all but went up in smoke this afternoon as they suffered a surprise defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield.

On a nightmare day for Jurgen Klopp’s side, Liverpool had no response to a first-half goal from Ebere Eze as they put the title race in the hands of both Arsenal and Manchester City.

It capped a hugely disappointing week for the Reds which has seem them hammered at Anfield by Atalanta in Europe.

For Klopp and his coaching staff, they now face an almighty task in picking up the players ahead of another big week in their season.

However, while Liverpool fans and players left Anfield today down in the dumps, former Everton striker and now BEIN Sports pundit, Andy Gray, believes there’s still reason to be cheerful for the Reds.

Andy Gray says Liverpool should still be positive despite Crystal Palace defeat

While the defeat was a poor one, on another day, Liverpool might have won the game with ease.

Some poor finishing, alongside some desperate defending from Palace, ensured the Reds simply couldn’t find a way past Dean Henderson in goal.

However, speaking on BEIN, former Sky man Gray believes the amount of chances Liverpool are creating is a good enough reason to suggest the title race is not done and dusted.

“I get there’s a lot of disappointment around Liverpool but as a neutral, if I’m looking at that, what would give me hope that his [Klopp’s] side still have a chance?

“I tell you what would give me hope, maybe I’m wrong to say this, but a team that creates as many chances as that has eventually got to start taking them. If they don’t well, that’s that. But I would worry if Liverpool played today and hadn’t created 23 chances and I’d say five of them, were exceptionally good chances,” Gray said.

Liverpool now travel to face Atalanta next week while today, they’ll hope Aston Villa do them a favour by taking something off Arsenal.

The season is not completely dead just yet.

But a few weeks ago, Liverpool were confident of coming away from this season with more than one trophy.

Now, they might feel the League Cup they won in February might be the highlight of the season.
