Ipswich Town star uses one word to describe Leeds United player after Sunday announcement

Leeds United attacker Crysencio Summerville picked up the Championship’s Player of the Season award on Sunday evening at the EFL awards – after starring for the Whites during 2023-24 campaign.

Beating the likes of Georginio Rutter, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall and Sammie Szmodics, 22-year-old talent Summerville has had a hand in 27 goals in 43 games for Leeds during our push for automatic promotion.

His form hs been excellent, almost unplayable for Championship opponents at times. Leeds need that form in the final three games of the season with a place in the top two coming right down to the wire.

Earlier in the season,Ross McCormack claimed Summerville is the best player in the Championship. Even Watford boss Tom Cleverley said the same, as Summerville curled one into the top corner against his side.

Now, he has the award to match. Summerville picked up the gong on Sunday. Archie Gray was voted the Young Player of the Season. Summerville, Ethan Ampadu and Georgi Rutter in the Team of the Season.

Summerville took to Instagram after he was announced as the League’s best player for 2023-24, clearly delighted to be voted as the league’s best. Hopefully, a confidence boost for the Netherlands U21 man.

What Ipswich and Everton stars said about Leeds’ Summerville

There is no doubt that Summerville has been utterly incredible this season and the pocket-sized attacker deserves to be promoted at the end of the campaign. But, with three games left, Leeds are up against it.

Sitting in third, Leeds are a point behind Leicester and two off Ipswich – with Leicester boasting a game in hand. Results have been crazy of late, with Gary Lineker joking that “nobody” wanted to be promoted.

It would be a travesty for Summerville and Gray to win such awards but Leeds fail to go up and secure a third promotion for Daniel Farke from the Championship. Three big games up next to make it count.

But for now, Summerville will be revelling in the adulation of his peers. Ipswich’s Omari Hutchinson put the rivalry that comes with a title race aside to praise Summerville, commenting “player” on his Instagram.

Everton star Amadou Onana also commented, saying Summerville’s award was “deserved”.
