‘Crying out for a player like him’: Ben Foster thinks Tottenham would love to sign £100m Newcastle star

Ben Foster has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur would love to sign one Newcastle United player.

Eddie Howe outsmarted Ange Postecoglou on Saturday as Newcastle thrashed Tottenham 4-0 at St James’ Park.

Tottenham dominated the ball on the day but struggled to break down a resilient Newcastle backline.

Timo Werner went close on a couple of occasions early on but it was the Magpies who continuously threatened Spurs’ goal thereafter.

Alexander Isak netted twice on the day, while Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar also got on the scoresheet.

Micky van de Ven had a day to forget as he struggled to deal with both Isak and Gordon in transitions.

The Dutchman was left on the turf for Newcastle’s first-half goals before he was caught out for Isak’s second of the game.

Foster claims Tottenham would love to sign Alexander Isak

Off the back of his impressive display against Spurs, Isak has received high praise from Ben Foster.

The former Manchester United man believes the Swede is worth £100 million and claimed Spurs would love a player like him.

“If Isak played for my football club in the Premier League, watching him week-in-week-out do what he does, I would not sell him for less than £100 million,” Foster told The Fozcast.

“There aren’t that many out-and-out strikers that know how to put the ball in the back of the net, with his pace as well and I think he’s only getting better.

“I remember when they signed him as well and I remember thinking you’re a little bit slight, you’re a little bit too skinny. You look to me like you’re going to pick up injuries, like you’re going to get bullied a little bit.

“At first, I think he found it a little bit difficult. But the way he’s progressed over the last couple of seasons. He looks bigger, bulkier, stronger, faster, and reads the game better.

“I’m not selling him for less than £100 million. No chance on this earth. Man United would love to have a player like him, so would Arsenal, Liverpool. Teams that would be crying out for a player like Isak. Spurs would love an Isak as well.”

Isak stats vs Tottenham

Isak proved to be a real thorn in the side for Spurs on Saturday as he netted two goals.

Tottenham were unable to deal with the Swede’s pace and he gave Van de Ven arguably his toughest game of the season so far.

The numbers certainly reflect what was a standout performance from Isak as we picked up an 8.8 match rating from WhoScored.

The 24-year-old managed six shots on goal and scored with both efforts on target, while also completing one of three dribbles attempted.

Following his double at the weekend, he’s netted 17 goals in 24 Premier League appearances this season.
