Michael Owen suggests three strikers for Arsenal who are an 'upgrade' on Gabriel Jesus

Michael Owen has named the three strikers Arsenal should consider signing in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Sunday’s defeat to Aston Villa has caused a bit of an uproar on social media. Some fans, as usual, are overreacting, but it is important to put into context that it was our first defeat in the Premier League in over three months.

There’s still a lot of football to be played, and although Manchester City are in the driving seat to win the Premier League title, anything can happen.

Irrespective of the results over the next month, Arsenal are expected to be active in the summer transfer window and a new striker will be high on the agenda.

Owen, who knows a thing or two about scoring goals, has now named three strikers he thinks are an upgrade on the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah at Arsenal.

Michael Owen suggests three strikers for Arsenal

Arsenal have been linked with about a dozen strikers over the last few months.

Mikel Arteta decided to keep his faith in the players he had back in the January transfer window, and that trust has been repaid for the most part.

Kai Havertz has done a remarkable job up front for Arsenal, but he isn’t someone who will guarantee over 25 goals every single season.

That’s the key difference between Arsenal and teams like Manchester City and Liverpool, who have Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah respectively to score more than 30 times a season.

Everyone is urging Arteta and Edu Gaspar to address the striker situation in the summer transfer window, and Michael Owen too believes Arsenal should dive into the market for a new number nine.

He has now suggested three centre-forwards who are an upgrade on what Arteta currently has at his disposal.

Owen said on Premier League Productions on Optus Sport: “He’s (Watkins) a player who is getting better and better year on year. He is, as Theo mentioned, the type who could go into the Arsenal team, whether or not they could buy him…

“There are a lot of players in the Premier League at the moment who would probably be an upgrade on what they have.

“You’re looking at [Alexander] Isak up at Newcastle, maybe Ivan Toney at Brentford and Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa.”

The one striker Arsenal should go all out for

Michael Owen has thrown three very good strikers into the hat, hasn’t he?

Ivan Toney has been linked with a move to Arsenal for months, and everybody knows what he is like in front of goal having seen him in the Premier League.

Ollie Watkins is having an immense season for Aston Villa. The Englishman has scored 26 goals and provided 10 assists for Unai Emery’s side this term, which is an outrageous return. He’s on Edu’s wish list.

However, if Mikel Arteta wants our advice, we would go all out for Alexander Isak.

The Swede, who has been compared to Thierry Henry, is a tremendous striker. He is exactly what we need, and if Arsenal can find a way to get him this summer, we will start next season as one of the favourites to win the Premier League title.
