Report: Williams now a ‘possible destination’ for ‘very talented’ driver Eddie Jordan absolutely loves

The Formula 1 driver’s market is still dominating headlines between races with so much uncertainty facing half of the grid.

Fernando Alonso was the first driver to blink during the season, committing his future to Aston Martin after assessing his options on the grid.

A report from The Race suggests that Williams are now assessing their options on the grid.

Team principal James Vowles already has one driver locked in for 2025.

Alex Albon has a contract with the team, however, Mercedes could still buy out his contract.

Red Bull also like Albon, but at the moment Williams will be hoping he decides to continue with the team for next year.

Logan Sargeant’s future is much less certain with suggestions already growing that he won’t be on the grid next year.

It means Williams need to consider their options and the Grove-based team is now a potential destination for Alpine driver Esteban Ocon.

The Frenchman will be looking around the paddock given how badly Alpine have started this season.

Williams now a potential destination for Esteban Ocon

It’s hard to see how Logan Sargeant survives beyond 2024 given the difference in pace between the American and his teammate.

Even when opportunities to impress crop up like they did in Japan when Albon crashed out, he’s been unable to take them.

There’s even been a suggestion that Sargeant could be replaced mid-season with Mercedes looking for a landing spot for teenager Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

The driver’s market looks more settled at the front end of the grid – unless your name is Carlos Sainz – but plenty could change for the bottom five teams.

Williams will want to make themselves the most desirable destination among those five manufacturers so that they can attract the likes of Esteban Ocon.

The 27-year-old is a Formula 1 race winner and has had a stronger start to the season than teammate Pierre Gasly.

Ocon has also been linked with Mercedes given his ties to the team, but he may be realistic enough to know that’s a long shot right now.

Esteban Ocon another F1 driver in a tough position

The report from The Race suggests that Ocon is among the candidates for an Audi drive when they take over from Sauber.

Carlos Sainz is Audi’s number-one target, and they want to pair him with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg.

However, if either of those drivers end up elsewhere, then Ocon is a very strong candidate.

They go on to say that Williams is also a potential destination for Ocon and it would be a small step forward for the one-time race winner.

Former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan has previously said that he loves Ocon and believes that he’s ‘very talented’.

It’s hard to stand out in a car that is rooted to the back of the grid.

Alpine were miles off the pace in Japan despite bringing minor upgrades and only finished ahead of Logan Sargeant because he spun off into the gravel.

Their team principal Bruno Famin will be under pressure very soon if things don’t improve but things have changed so much behind the scenes in recent years that they can’t keep chopping and changing.

However, they might be looking for at least one new driver very soon if Ocon and Williams team up in 2025.
