Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has just overtaken Declan Rice in one key statistic this season

It is fair to say that people have been dividied when it comes to how they rate Moises Caicedo’s first season at Chelsea.

Those who watch him every week will surely be acknowledging an improvement in performances every week, culminating in his best display of the season against Everton on Monday night.

However, some have struggled to look past Caicedo’s price tag when judging him, especially in comparison to another player who made the move over the summer for a similar fee.

Declan Rice was a long-term transfer target at Stamford Bridge before he eventually made the move to Arsenal instead over the summer.

The England international has proven to be a popular signing for the Gunners, with him immediately interjecting himself into the title picture.

While Caicedo has been in for not nearly as much praise as Rice, it does seem the job they are doing on the pitch is actually more similar than many would think.

Moises Caicedo overtakes Declan Rice for ball recoveries

In fact, according to Mozo Football, the Ecuador international has actually overtaken him as far as successful ball recoveries are concerned this season.

Winning the ball back is clearly an area where the 22-year-old is one of the best in world football, and is playing an important role for his new side.

Gallagher and Caicedo shine for Chelsea

The duo of him alongside Conor Gallagher started the game on Monday against Everton, and it did give off the impression that Mauricio Pochettino had accidentally stumbled across what could be his best duo right now.

This of course means that there is no obvious place for Enzo Fernandez, however this may not be too much of an issue for now after reports stated that the World Cup winner could be suffering with an injury worse than first feared.

However, the future is clearly with the Argentine, after the Blues recently triggered an extension to his contract at Stamford Bridge.
