'That's very harsh': Ally McCoist completely disagrees with what he's heard said about Mikel Arteta

Ally McCoist has completely disagreed with Jermaine Pennant’s comments on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have made undeniable progress under Mikel Arteta over the past five years.

The Spaniard took over from Unai Emery back in December 2019, with Arsenal struggling in 10th place at the time.

Of course, it hasn’t been plain-sailing for Arteta despite delivering an FA Cup in his debut campaign.

Arsenal finished eighth in his first two seasons at the club but Arteta has transformed them into genuine title contenders now.

Despite the huge improvements on the pitch, there is pressure for the Spaniard to deliver after significant investment in the squad.

McCoist disagrees with Jermaine Pennant’s Arteta comments

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist was told that Jermaine Pennant feels Arteta could come under pressure if Arsenal fail to lift silverware this season.

The former Arsenal winger believes the Spaniard could be in danger of being viewed as a ‘nearly man’.

Yet, Alan Brazil and McCoist have a different view on Arteta’s position at the club.

“Nonsense,” McCoist said. “Absolute nonsense.”

“Listen, Arsenal have improved and they aren’t done yet,” Brazil added. “Spurs can’t wait for that game, can they? Tottenham against Arsenal.

“Still a long way to go. I looked at the table again this morning, anything can happen.”

“That’s harsh. I think that’s very harsh,” McCoist later added. “I think there is an improvement again in Arsenal this year.

“I’m not having all that patter about bottling it, I’m not having it at all. I don’t like it.

“They were beaten by an excellent team at the weekend who are doing very well. You can lose games without bottling it. The whole world has gone crazy with this bottling tag.

“Arsenal were beaten by a very good team at the weekend. It’s their first defeat since the new year. They won something like 11 in a row, they drew 0-0 at the Etihad.

“I think they’re having a very good season. They’ve got a home draw against Bayern Munich and they come over here for a very difficult tie.

“I definitely think there has been improvement again this year, so I’d say no.”

Bayern Munich vs Arsenal huge for Arteta

Tonight’s clash at the Allianz Arena looks set to be a huge game in Arsenal’s season.

Following the 2-0 defeat to Villa, a victory in Germany would be huge for the Gunners’ confidence ahead of the run-in.

Of course, Arsenal’s form dipped massively towards the end of last season, which led to Manchester City pipping them to the title.

Arteta’s men will have to bounce back quickly to avoid a repeat of the last campaign and tonight’s second leg in Munich represents the perfect opportunity for the Gunners to get back on track.
