Report: 'Outstanding' 16-year-old Tottenham youngster called up to senior training by Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou is renowned for his faith in youth and has shown that at Tottenham. Whether that be making players between 20 and 25 the core of his side – or giving academy players a run out.

Mikey van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson have all emerged as key players this season – as Postecoglou begins the start of a new Spurs era with the Aussie at the helm. It’s working.

Dane Scarlett and Jamie Donley meanwhile, have been given senior game time. Scarlett has made five appearances off the bench, Donley four. Ashley Phillips made the bench before a loan move to Plymouth.

Alfie Dorrington, too. Plenty of young stars are getting a chance and for the rest of the academy, it shows there is a path for them to follow into the senior side at some stage. Mikey Moore could be the next.

Ange Postecoglou rewards Mikey Moore in Tottenham training

There is an excitement surrounding England U17 man Moore at Tottenham. Gary Mabbutt recently said there is a hope at Spurs that wonderkid Moore could be the club’s next Harry Kane in years to come.

Still only 16, Moore is already well ahead of the curve, He has been playing regularly for the U18 side, and has even clocked up appearances for the second string. Moore has 16 goals and nine assists in 14 games.

Predominantly a left winger that can play up top, Moore’s numbers are exceptional and it seems that he could be about to be rewarded for his form in the 18’s. That is according to a report from Lilywhite Rose.

They claim in a post on Twitter that Moore was in senior training on Tuesday and that is why he was not available for Tuesday night’s U18 clash against Norwich – which ended in a 2-0 Premier League defeat.

When can Tottenham fans expect Moore to make his debut?

It is not the first time that Moore has been in senior training. But he is yet to make his senior debut for Tottenham. It would be unlikely to see Moore make his debut in a North London derby, this weekend.

But you can certainly expect to see Moore involved with the first team during pre-season especially with players returning late after playing at Euro 2024. It hands Moore a real chance to stake a claim on a place.

In years to come, it will be interesting to see how Moore fairs – with the likes of Troy Parrott and Scarlett failing to live up to expectation in recent years. But, there is a hope Moore can take it to the next level.
