Report suggests Ineos want to sell Manchester United player despite Jason Wilcox stance

Manchester United are embarking on a new era under Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with big changes ultimately expected at the end of the season.

Fans are expecting significant investment in the transfer market with Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise thought to be a key target.

Then there is the rather large matter of deciding Erik ten Hag’s future.

Performances haven’t been good enough this season and Ten Hag may well be replaced two years after his arrival from Ajax.

Ineos are also trying to build a tried-and-tested group of directors to help United progress both on and off the pitch.

United want to land Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth as sporting director and are working on a deal to bring in Southampton’s Jason Wilcox as technical director.

Jason Wilcox’s thoughts on Jadon Sancho

Wilcox has been with Southampton for less than a year but is now nearing a move to Old Trafford.

Talks between United and Southampton continue with Wilcox allegedly having already agreed terms to join United.

One interesting connection is with Jadon Sancho as Wilcox coached him in the Manchester City academy.

Sancho was frozen out by Ten Hag and sent on loan to former club Borussia Dortmund in January.

The winger has now reached the Champions League semi-finals and will return to United this summer with his future up in the air.

Much will depend on whether Ten Hag keeps his job but Wilcox may be willing to give Sancho another chance.

iNews report that Wilcox is ‘open’ to reintegrating Sancho into the United squad when his Dortmund loan ends.

However, that feeling isn’t mirrored throughout the club.

It’s suggested that the first choice for Ineos and United is to sell Sancho this summer.

Wilcox may look to change that stance but Sancho’s bad blood with Ten Hag – as well as his disappointing displays since joining in 2021 – mean a sale could be on the cards.

What has Wilcox said about Sancho?

Wilcox saw Sancho as a very young player at City and hailed him as ‘sensational’ at the age of just 15.

Wilcox felt that Sancho was ‘talented’ and worked ‘really hard’, loving what he saw in his early days.

Sancho’s work rate has been questioned in the past but Wilcox was seemingly able to get the best out of him at that stage in his development.

The Southampton man wouldn’t be the one on the training pitch coaching Sancho, but his input could be helpful having worked so closely with him in the past.

Sancho has been able to play regularly and turn in some decent displays with Dortmund, getting his career somewhat back on track.

Whether that is enough to save his United career remains to be seen, but he seems to have one supporter heading into the club in Wilcox.
