Will Hughes now says Crystal Palace have a teenage talent who has "come on leaps and bounds" this season

For Will Hughes, there is one particular Crystal Palace player who deserves praise for his development in 2023/24.

It’s been a pretty weird campaign for Crystal Palace with ups and downs coming week on week, although lately it’s been more up.

Oliver Glasner has turned to entire club around in just two months, to the point that there is an extremely bright future.

One player who as of now, isn’t a part of that future though is Will Hughes as he’s still set for his contract to expire in June, with little discussion around a new deal.

Although, since returning from his injury, he’s been a regular fixture in midfield next to Adam Wharton which could see Glasner end up offering him one.

But, he’s now been talking with the club website and has praised one player for one thing he’s improved in this season.

Will Hughes explains where Matheus Franca has improved this season

Speaking with club media on Wednesday, Hughes, was the subject of the latest long-form interview from the series which seems to come weekly at this stage.

He discussed various different players and talking points currently surrounding the club.

One of these was on the exits of both James McArthur and Luka Milivojevic and the impact that had on the club.

But another was on 19-year-old Brazilian Matheus Franca, who Hughes has now praised for his improvements in English since joining the club last summer.

“His English has come on brilliantly. He has come on leaps and bounds since he first came, and that has only been a short period of time.”

After a season of settling in, we expect that we’ll see Franca improve on the field next season and do his £26m fee justice.

Oliver Glasner seems keen to utilise Matheus Franca for Crystal Palace

Since he arrived, Glasner showed some real intention to use Franca, handing him a 24-minute cameo during both his first and second game in charge.

He even assisted one goal in the 3-0 thumping of Burnley back in February.

But he then picked up an injury and hasn’t been seen since despite having an early April return initially hoped for – however, this has been extended as the pain has continued for the teenager.

One thing that is for sure is that Palace will be desperate for him to find his feet in the Premier League next season.
