Mikel Arteta details how Arsenal stars reacted to Bayern Munich loss in the dressing room

Mikel Arteta has detailed how Arsenal’s star players reacted in the dressing room to tonight’s loss to Bayern Munich.

The north London side were unable to make the most of their chances as Arsenal fell to a 1-0 defeat in Bavaria, with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli unable to make the most of the occasion as the north London side faltered going forward.

With Martin Odegaard also being incensed by the officials, it simply wasn’t Arsenal’s night as Arteta failed to take the Gunners to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, where they would have faced Real Madrid.

And Arteta has now revealed how the players were feeling in the dressing room after full-time.

Arsenal stars ‘really gutted’ after Champions League loss vs Bayern Munich

Speaking to TNT Sports, Arteta painted the picture of ‘a really gutted dressing room’ as Arsenal were unable to push the game into extra-time, with chances going to waste as Bayern soaked up the pressure.

With just three shots on target despite a decent 48% possession, Arsenal lacked the cutting edge to cause Bayern some real damage, with the factor of playing away from home something that might have also played a part in the defeat.

Arteta said asked what the Arsenal players are now feeling after tonight’s loss against Bayern: “At the moment, it’s a really gutted dressing room.

“I cannot find the right words to lead them, I wish I had. Through the tie there were very small margins. We gave them two goals. It’s the moment to stay next to the players and stick with them because they took us on this journey.”

Arsenal should be kicking themselves for chances missed

From Martinelli’s chance in the opening half to Saka’s last-second corner, there were opportunities there for Arsenal to cause Bayern some real harm and to get a goal or two on the scoreboard.

Yet the occasion seemingly got to Arsenal, with Bayern only needing one golden chance to inflict that killer blow to the north London side and to send them packing out of the Champions League.

This Arsenal team are young and will be back next year, and the chances missed tonight will serve as key lessons for the players who will be eager to push the Gunners to European glory next season.
