Tottenham fans are all saying the same thing about Eric Dier after Bayern Munich’s victory vs Arsenal

Eric Dier has now reached the Champions League semi finals with Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur fans have all been left saying the same thing.

After last week’s draw at the Emirates Stadium, Bayern were able to edge the clash on Wednesday night against Arsenal on their home soil.

Tottenham defender Eric Dier – who will leave permanently in the summer – played the full 180 minutes across both games alongside Spurs’ all time record goalscorer Harry Kane.

The Tottenham duo sent the Gunners packing back to north London as their miserable week continues with Champions League elimination.

It has been a difficult season for Bayern who have handed over their Bundesliga crown to Bayer Leverkusen on the weekend.

But they were able to overcome Mikel Arteta’s side who may have expected an easier ride given Bayern’s form in the Bundesliga.

Tottenham fans were left saying the same thing after Dier’s display against Arsenal

After the arrival of Ange Postecoglou in the summer, it quickly became apparent that Dier would not be playing much of a role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 30-year-old was only able to rack up a mere 198 minutes of Premier League football before he left for Munich in the January window.

Since making the move to Germany, Dier has enjoyed more consistent first team football where he has already surpassed what he got under the Australian.

The centre-back has now played over 1000 minutes of football across the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

Last week saw Spurs fans take to social media to hail the performance of Kane after he netted from the spot.

However, it was Dier’s turn to be lavished in praise this week after his solid display at the back.

One fan said, ‘Best defender in the world right now. He has always been fantastic’. Meanwhile another added, ‘Get him back’.

There was one fan who simply said, ‘He was class #EricDier’. But another did add a bit more in saying, ‘Dier is a class defender ideal in a back 3. He can’t play for Ange because Ange basically doesn’t have a defence’.

Another admitted he was a fan of Dier saying, ‘Good player. Just not in the PL, and that’s ok’. Whilst another fan just added, ‘Two one of our owns!’

Impressive stats show how Eric Dier could have saved Spurs millions

In the January transfer window, Dier departed Hotspur Way as Radu Dragusin arrived.

The Romanian even rejected a proposal from Bayern Munich as he chose Postecoglou’s project instead.

However, the 22-year-old is struggling to make an impression in north London just yet as Dier shines in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

  • 90 minutes played
  • 2 clearances
  • 3 interceptions
  • 4 tackles
  • 87 touches
  • 97% pass accuracy
  • 4/4 ground duels won
  • 0X dribbled past

Of course, Spurs realistically needed a long-term option in defence as they seeked reinforcement.

Perhaps Dier could have played a more significant role during Micky van de Ven‘s injury and Cristian Romero‘s suspension.
