'They like...': Sky Sports journalist says Wolves have 'genuine interest' in 21-year-old EFL striker

Wolves will be looking forward to a busy summer in the transfer window, with a Championship forward linked to Gary O’Neil’s squad as the boss looks to strengthen in numbers.

It’s poised to be an interesting summer for Wolves, who will be on the hunt for reinforcements in the transfer window after battling the season with their limited squad.

Gary O’Neil will be desperate to see Fosun hand him some financial support after an inconclusive January window and the lows of last summer left the Old Gold low on numbers.

Against the odds, the manager has led his side to great highs throughout the 2023/24 campaign, with the limits of Wolves’ squad only recently showing due to successive key absences.

With just six games left to play in the Premier League season, O’Neil will have his eye on the transfer window, with one name already linked to Molineux ahead of the summer.

Wolves have ‘genuine interest’ in Bristol City striker Tommy Conway

In January, Wolves attempted to sign Chelsea loanee Armando Broja until the end of the campaign however, Fulham acted faster to secure the forward’s signature.

It was an unfortunate miss for O’Neil who recently communicated to the media his frustration over the deal not being able to be sanctioned by Fosun, with a striker clearly in the manager’s sights.

“They like Bristol City’s Tommy Conway, that is a genuine interest shown.”

In January, it was reported that Wolves were one of the clubs interested in Tommy Conway, who has shown encouraging form at Bristol City this season in the Championship.

The 21-year-old was in demand in the January window, with a host of Premier League clubs said to be admirers of the youngster, with the Old Gold now poised to re-evaluate their stance on him this summer.

Why Tommy Conway could be a strong signing for Wolves

While a 21-year-old second-tier striker isn’t perhaps what Wolves fans would desire on paper, you only have to look at what their former Championship target, Viktor Gyokeres, has gone on to do in Europe this season.

Of course, Conway’s goalscoring exploits haven’t been close to that of the Sporting CP superstar however, there is a host of talent there waiting to be tested at the top level.

When touching on Wolves’ interest in the Bristol City starlet, Phillips added the pros to a coach like O’Neil hiring a budding talent.

“They’re not the sort of players you’d go to and think, ‘there’s a 20-goal answer’ but I think Gary O’Neil has shown that he can work with players, develop them and play a system where you don’t need that out and out target man.”

Having already accumulated 79 Championship appearances and 19 league goals for the Robins, Conway has the experience at senior level that O’Neil could certainly mould into an established player in Wolves’ system.

The youngster has also shown he can challenge against Premier League opposition this season, scoring twice against West Ham United in the FA Cup.
